Cloth Wiring Harness Mesh
« on: September 06, 2013, 07:31:52 PM »
On the rear wiring harness from the door pillars to the tail lights. The harness is partially covered with a cloth mesh tube that is loosely woven. Has anyone found a replacement that is the same color? I have found a tighter woven product that comes in black or gray.

This wiring harness covering material, was used for many years from what I can determine.

The link's mesh is nowhere close to what Ford used.  The original material was cotton, and the use of it in wiring is now banned according to OSHA due to its flammability  (this is what a firm who has manufactured wiring for over 50 years told me).  The mesh is added to the wires before any of the molding is made or connectors added: it is part of the manufacturing process of the harness itself.

Someone has had their tail-light remanufactured by Rhode Island Wiring (http://www.riwire.com/) for a fairly high price.

I get this question quite a bit, have done some research, and found there is nothing one can do unless one pays a steep price for it.  Sorry.
