Battery Heat Shield For 1971 429CJ
« on: March 10, 2014, 07:10:42 PM »
Thought I would give this a shot.  I am looking for a battery heat shield for a 71 429 or 71 Boss 351 car.  I have a restored 71 429 Mach 1 but the shield is missing. Would like to find one. I believe they were only used on these cars and I do not think they are reproduced.

Group 27 battery heat shield. I am pretty sure that they were used on 1970-73 Mustang and Cougar, and at least 1970-1 Torino/Cyclone. Hard to find in undamaged condition. Last one that I found was on a 1972 Q code with A/C.

Thank you!  Did not know they reproduced. I did note the application showed thru 1970 but I assume this part would be correct for the often neglected 71 Mustangs too!

NPD sells them

Sure that is not a reproduction of the C7 version (believe it is). If its says in the ad 67-70 then its not the one. Sold a D00B one to Scott over on the 428 CJ registry when he was looking for a sample needed to investigate getting that version made.

C7 version is shaped differently than the DO. Might be in a thread here - know I've posted on at least two sites pictures and differences. Last nice D00B I bought came out of WCC yard ;) Here is a long and short version of the D00B - not cut off but formed differently.

You do have some references to the later shield Marus provided in a post

Believe I put a D4 version on my 71 CJ ... since that is what I had :(

Jeff,

Can you paste the eBay item number in eBay and tell me if this one will work on a 71 mustang 429cj?  The listing says it will fit the 71 with a 429cj but he could be just trying to broaden his sales. I would like to make sure I am getting the correct version of the heat shield.

Thanks,

Its not the correct version for your car - this is the C7 long/group 27 version. The description even mentions that it only correct for part (should be very early) 1970 not after that point ;)

Belevee it will "fit"  but since the battery sits in the car differently I think they are too long and would have to be shortened - removing the curved edge/end that would have originally been there. The other visible different once installed is the top edge that faces towards the center of the car should run the full length - 67 versions don't On the picture posted in the add it stops (on this version) before it reaches the second set of depressions

Semo and I were both looking into reproducing these back years ago. I backed off so that we would not divide the pie in too many pieces - after all the investment that it would take to make these

Ok,

Thanks a lot.  If you were to cut the curved part to make it fit that would totally defeat the purpose of grabbing the air to cool the battery. I will just keep looking for a real one. If you know of a lead on one please let me know.

I still haven't found a way to reproduce that shield economically, but it's still something I have in the back of my mind.

I am still looking for that heat shield for my 429 Mach 1 if anyone has one for sale or knows where to look.

Thanks,
Mike

Guess I will keep looking. Just looks like such a simple part to reproduce but I guess there is not enough
demand for it.
