Title: 1970 Mach 1 AM radio
Post by: Rbisch4 on December 29, 2015, 11:43:05 PM
Anyone know which AM radio was installed for 1970 Mach 1 built in Metuchen 10/69?  Part number?

You'll need the engineering number rather than the part number of the item to identify it. Paart number would not be stamped on the case.

No 70 radios around the house currently so can't provide that at the moment

Here is a shot of the face of ID purposes

The 70 AM was marked DOZA-18806-A on the side.
It was stamped into the metal case.

My radio was swapped out at some point in time. Above the radio that is currently installed, it says "Mustang", which looks like it came that way from the factory, because it looks like it is on the original dash plate. I'm looking at retro style radios to install, and some of them come with the word Mustang at the top, so I wouldn't want it look redundant.

Can anyone confirm whether the word Mustang was there in chrome letters above the radio, originally? I looked at the original Mustang brochure, and the picture does not show the work Mustang, but the picture shows an 8 track version, which mine did not have.

Thanks!

The radio should have a stamping int he case on the drivers side to help identify when it was made and or the engineering number identifying the application. Can't find any examples (have about 30 examples) without the Philco  for a AM radio in 70.

If no radio was ordered the bezel had MUSTANG in chrome where the radio would have been. Although I don't see how the MUSTANG could be saved if it was cut for an aftermarket radio.

That's a 1970 radio for a multi speaker mustang. The multi speaker system has door speakers and is not often seen.

Have a number of original cars with that radio. But its an AMFM  rather than the one being discussed and apparently Philco produced them with MUSTANG on the face. Don't know why since it they had stayed with Philco and not Mustang then they would nto have had to make different faces for Cougar and Mustang but it was a premium up grade so maybe they thought differently

If this is any help for clarity I would like to add a few pics of the original AM radio I pulled out of my 1970 Dearborn built Mach 1. As you can see it has a 1969 C9ZA number and not the 1970 DOZA number. The car was built on Sept 4, 1969.
