Boss Rear Sway Bars

Sorry for asking the same thing again but the information I have found indicates that the 1970 B302, B429 and 428CJ's normally had the same 5/8 Rear Sway bar (apart from the early models) as they all had the same competition handling package at the rear.
Would this be correct?

yes  1 year only bar in 71 the bar changed bends.

Guess the question is if the D0ZZ-A is a replacement for all those application rather than the original part for the application given the differences listed for the bushings. Good comparison is the front sway bars and matching bushings

Don't have a 70 MPC  nor looked to see if the buildsheets show different bars for the different applications

The 70 b2 b9 428 cj rear bar is 5/8'' & the 351C  4v  is 1/2'' bar  and they each have a different size hole bushing to fit the bar. One type has the shoulder lip on both sides of bushing and the other dont and i see many 5/8'' bars with the wrong type bushings installed.

The 351 5/8" bar callout in the MPC is just a MPC screwup, I've parted out dozens of Mach1's and every 351 car had a 1/2" bar... Interestingly, I've been documenting 70CJ/SCJ cars since the 1980's and (out of 100's of cars i've looked at), I know of two original "survivor" 428 cars that came with a 1/2" bar, both happen to be "W" code SCJ's. (One car still has the original exaust system so I can't imagine someone just changed the rear swaybar) I'm assuming these were assembly plant errors. Every 1970 Boss car I've seen had a 5/8" bar.  As for the bushings, all the original 5/8" bar cars I've seen use the bushings without the flanges from the factory. I have one set of NOS bushings without the flanges in paper bags, Most of the service parts for the 5/8" bushings were the flanged style and came in boxes or plastic bags. I'm pretty sure someone reproduces the correct bushings without the flanges....

"Ford Car Parts" (aka MPC) lists replacement items, not what was originally installed at the factory. The 5/8 inch diameter sway bar will work, and will (I assume) preform better than the original. I agree, it is not a Concourse item.

Hi Jim,
I assumed it was a screw up because ,generally, acceptable replacement service parts will usually directly interchange. The 5/8" bar won't replace the 1/2" bar without also changing the bushings. (unless Ford also provided the larger bushings when you ordered the swaybar)

So you had to get larger bushings with the larger sway bar. In the 1970's, an upgrade like that was a bonus. Remember, Ford did not build concouse grade cars, or support concourse grade car in their service departments.

My understanding is that Cougars used the 1/2" rear sway bar for the competition handling package / heavy duty suspension, which was standard on Eliminators and 428 cars.

My SJC / 4-speed Cougar has the 1/2" bar.  The bushings for the 1/2" bar are currently not reproduced, and finding decent replacements is nearly impossible.

My understanding is the D0ZZ-5493-A bushings are for the 1/2" bar and have no shoulders.

For clarity: the 1970 Mach 1 w/ 351 2bbl and comp suspension (mandatory option) had the 1/2" rear sway bar as well.
