Title: Alternator Wiring
Post by: 13Outlaw on March 27, 2021, 06:34:14 PM
Good afternoon all, I am finally around to getting my R-Code running and my question is this? Do they sell the plug that goes from the voltage regulator to the alternator plug?
I bought the correct plug for the alternator w/Tach and I bought a new pigtail for the voltage regulator. Shouldn't there be a plug coming off of the regulator to the alternator? I'm using the factory Dearborn wiring harness for my 69 R-Code that is in surprising overall good shape, aside from those two areas.
I have searched and really can?t find a good pic of what I need. If anyone has a good pic or vendor to buy the plug (if there is such a plug) to wire into the voltage regulator, I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

Don't know that they are available for purchase new. Guess you would need a section of wire long enough to hide the splice under the wrap on the main loom or elsewhere. Might have to get a matching (production period as well as tach version) used one from a donor

Currently you have to find a donor harness to get that section that you describe from . FYI the original wires will most likely not match up color wise with the generic regulator pigtail shown in your picture. They can be hidden under the wrap but where they attach at the regulator they are visibly different for a tach car. The problem is that the plug at the end of the harness that comes from the regulator to the tach harness is unique to tach cars. Because of that there are very limited opportunities to find a donor section at a reasonable price. I have seen some plugs that people have tried to convert and they didn't pass the originality look test. Midlife on this forum may have a alternative.

1969 alternator plugs for cars with tachs are rare in my world; I don't have any in stock on the headlight harness side; the alternator side can be bought as reproductions as a full harness.

Thank you all for the response and help. I figured I was going to have a tough time finding the correct plug.
Thanks again guys!

It will be easier to just find a complete tach headlight harness IMO.
