I can get pictures of original Carlite windshield etchings, and Motor wheel numbers.

Thanks that would be helpful. On the other makers finding one date on the rim and one on the centers

Haven't located a date or stamp on the center of Magnums yet

Jeff, at this time, are you only looking at 1968-71 smog pumps?

Currently (for this article) limiting myself to the classic period 65-73

Can you, or someone else can give me some direction on where to find the dates on the 4 bolt pulley style 1966-67 California smog pumps?

I have 3 samples of these to easily look at. 2 of them are 66's and one is a 67
Later I can upload images I took of the  two 66's, the dating I found is on the cast iron back plate. The codes are similar to what we might find on other cast items (look similar to a screwed on tag) but there are not as many characters used. For example, one is "201" (maybe "2D1") and other is "14" or maybe "I4". The casting number seems to be the same, at a glance, but there is another code "D10" on one and "D8" on the other.

It would be better if I could take more time that my lunch hour will not allow, let me know if you want images or more info. I could easily look at the 67 one also, if you wish

There is a 66 Smog pump fo sale on ebay with some numbers seen on the aluminum front housing too. 3rd picture in the series of shots

This evening, I might try and clean up one or two of mine and see if I can get some close, good pictures. I don't really have high resolution cameras.

Need to dig out a half dozen or so and compare first

======================
Updated most recent needed list

Currently looking for close (but not so close that you can not see what the part is)  and clear pictures of the following

- Dated band hose clamps. Can be from radiator or heater hoses

- Stamped steel oil pan with the date stamp

- Debossed fan belt

- Thermactor pump date

- Couple nice and clear ( I know good luck) windshield markings .

- Motor Wheel rim and center dates

Pretty impressive project Jeff....

Just see allot of "how do you decode..." this and that on this site and others so thought that a single article could answer allot of them while combining them all in a single document.

Believe that is where the efforts should be focused for me - those area that will provide the biggest long term reward/reduction of efforts so we can focus on other things.

The other big/bigger project is a how they painted guide. Have privately handed out drafts of my efforts for 15 year and thing its time to refresh, improve and expand to something I will be happier with. But that one will have to be rolled out in layers since there will be more than a couple dozen versions to cover all the plants and years. Also have to wait until I collect data from some of the more difficult periods for certain applications

Thanks for those pictures. Two more down ;)

This is a set of the most legible I could find in my wrecking yard. Lots more, but this gives a representation of years. I found no difference with the few San Jose built Cougars from the Dearborn built ones. These are all coupe or convertible windshields. All photos taken from inside the cars to see the etchings correctly except for the one noted.
**This one dated 0C was found on a 1968 coupe, obvious service replacement. Note the DOT number, and this etching was the only one taken from outside of the car. **

I guess the next task is to determine the approximate date of the 'Carlite' logo change from 1972-73.
