427 GT-E on BAT
« on: February 09, 2022, 01:22:41 PM »
Seems like a pretty good car. Lots of little details I would have done differently but overall pretty good.

I am not versed in GTE lore but I thought the the GTE 427 engines were hydraulic top oiling engines typically and not the solid lifter side oiler blocks as the description indicates?

All of the 427 Cougar GT-E's are side oilers rated by Ford at 390HP. There were 357 built with the 427 engine, 101 with standard interior and 256 with the nicer interior this one has.

For comparison there were many times more Boss 429 Mustangs built over two model years. Ford rated the Boss 429 at 375HP.

Royce - have an opinion about that price?  I know; whatever someone will pay is the price.  But some 428 CJ cars have been auctioned at that price and above and I guess I expected a higher price in this hot market.

I think overall it was a good car and it was a survivor that was restored 20 years ago. They got some details wrong but overall a pretty decent one at the price. A friend of mine went to see it and was impressed it still had the assembly line water pump, fuel pump, starter etc. Carburetor was right, original smog pump - stuff that you would have trouble finding. Original air cleaner assembly too. (it had a repro lid in the pictures)

Not to speak for Royce, but this car had some details that needed correcting to bring it to the next level.  In addition BAT is not the ideal venue when you're talking about a car that's not widely known.  There simply isn't a big enough audience.  I thought this car was well bought but not to the point of causing any seller remorse.

BTW my friend had to drop out of the bidding at the end when the price (with BAT fees considered) exceeded his supply of cash on hand.
