Title: 1985 Mustang GT
Post by: BOSSHiPo on August 15, 2023, 01:24:25 PM
I inherited my late Uncles all original 85 GT 5 speed Mustang

I'm trying to figure out if the Holley carburetor is original to the car from Ford.

How is the best way to determine this?

Thanks for the help!

Should be date coded like other Holley's.  What's the stamping on the air horn and is there a tag?

Charles

I actually have 2 one on the car and one in a Holley box

I'm not sure about the details, my uncle passed away so no one to ask

Here is what I have so far

stamped on air horn

E4ZE-9510-3A
List-50151
3003

I'm trying to determine the car is in fact 100% original

It only has 386 miles, he bought it new and it's been in his garage since then

Thank you for the help!

3003 would decode to 300th day, presumably 1983.

Great!

Thank you that helps!

I'll check the one on the car when I can. Hoping it's the original one still on the car

Thanx!

Your boxed carb is definitely too early.  Most 1985 5.0 5 speed Mustangs had a E5ZE-9510-GA for a carb with a list of 50265.  There has reportedly been early build cars that have had a E4ZE.  When you pull the air cleaner to check the air horn information, there should also be a blue tag on the carb with data on it.

Post both the blue tag information (if still there) as well as the air horn information, and we can probably decode it for you.  Also please post the vehicle's build date (MM/YY) from the upper right corner of the Vehicle Certification Label on the driver's door jamb.

Thanks guys!

Will do when I see the car again next month it gives me something to look for.

Thank you!

Not at this time.

When I get it home, most likely give it a really good detail and then would like to take it to a couple of MCA shows!
