Bob

Thank you for the reply.
I bet if you pulled off one of your speaker covers the part # would end in DW...

CW means something different.

The CW part # cover is slightly smaller in size.

Any thoughts...

Yes DW. I checked some on the shelf I find that they are DW. Sorry I am only familiar with the deluxe interior style.

Do you have a idea what "CW" means for the specific interior

The CW speaker cover is slightly smaller than the DW speaker cover.

The "DW" speaker cover is for 1969-70 with stereo door speakers. It has a curled edge on the bottom, contours to the bottom edge of the doors on 1969-70 Mustang and Cougars.

+1 it is often the case with color-keyed interior parts that the part number suffix is used to differentiate between colors.

Out of curiosity, I pulled a white speaker grill of dads 70 Boss.  AM 8 track car with white standard interior.  Grill never been off the car.   Found it to be a -cw suffix.

Might be the interior trim level, of the door panel, that changes the speaker cover?

The "DW" covers appear to be all the same regardless of color.

Extract from the 1975 MPC. Standard vs deluxe?

Keep in mind that you are asking about an assembly line's part number which is different than a dealer's service stock number, the "ZZ" in this case. (The documentation for the service number refers back to and says to use the assembly line part number to make, identify and inspect the part, but the dealer orders, and stocks the service number.)
The door grill is shown in the 1969 Mustang Electric Manual (AM0028) pg55, item 3, as two options, C9ZA-18978-CW, standard door trim only, and C9ZA-18978-BW, Mustangs with decor door trim and all Cougars. These are the actual Ford design casting numbers. The 70 manual shows a -EW and -FW for the same use. The difference is most likely a design change (strengthen holes or webbing are the most common). As Scott shows in reply 10, it is not color.

Standard interior vs deluxe.  The standard (CW) is completely flat on the backside, made to fit up against the metal door.  The deluxe is contoured at the bottom to fill the gap where the speaker cover goes over the door panel, since the deluxe door panels (and Cougar panels) are cut out all the way to the bottom edge when used with speakers.
