Really need a oil slinger on 289 ???

hi,

did we really need to put a oïl slinger on my rebuilt 289 ? Did the harmonic balancer bolt will fit without this slinger or will be too long ? did you recommend to put a oïl slinger ?

I am not sure of the question, but it sounds like you are asking if the slinger will cause a new problem when added back into the assembly. Short answer~ NO. If you are asking if it SHOULD be in there, YES. It helps lubricate the timing components by slinging the oil around.

The slinger is placed onto the crankshaft after the timing components are set up and before the timing cover goes on. It is a very thin piece of sheet metal that is sandwiched between the lower timing sprocket and the harmonic balancer, it is only about .030 inch thick maybe. Hope this helps.

I am still confused after reading this post. Are we talking about the oil slinger
or counterweight the 289 HiPo was equipped with?

talking about the oil slinger that go between the timing sproket and the timing cover seal on a 289 C-code. Sorry i am french and i know it's hard sometimes to understand what i want to said..sorry about that !!

Here's a 302 internal diagram. The oil slinger is 6310 in the diagram. Is that what you want? The HP hatchet is not shown.
(Note: I "borrowed" this from the site that has their "water mark" on the drawing and they "borrowed" the original from Ford.)
