Title: Vacuum reservoir identification 3E547 and 19A566 and ???
Post by: 67gta289 on November 14, 2021, 05:57:36 PM
Trying to firm up identification of vacuum reservoirs, starting with the 67 MY but not wanting to stop there.   This is for basic part number 3E547 (tilt-away steering column) and 19A566 (air conditioning and in some cases air conditioning plus tilt-away steering).  I'm not planning on getting into vacuum reservoirs for hide-away headlamps (13A168), but let's see where this goes.  I'm pretty sure we can skip over the reservoir for vacuum door locks (219A02) and perhaps speed control (9C735)

Staying Mustang focused, 1967 was the first year with a vacuum reservoir, for integral A/C, tilt-away steering column, or both.  Attached are listings of reservoirs (sometimes called vacuum cans or vacuum canisters, noting that here to support future searches) for 67 and 68.  Also is a picture of what I believe to the the oblong C7ZZ-19A566-A.   The C9ZZ-3E547-A picture is premature from a 67-68 perspective, but I wanted to include it to show the "coffee can" shape.  Note that I purchased this new at the Ford dealer in 1981 as a replacement for the C7ZZ-3E547-A that I was looking for. I was disappointed to see that one of the vacuum ports was much smaller than original.

Here are some pictures of the coffee can style, with a slight variation on the nipple size.  There is also a subtle difference in the ripples on the back side.

I'm not sure of the part number.  These are most likely a combination of C7ZZ-3E547-A and C8SZ-3E547-A as I have been pulling these from 67 and 68 T-Birds when I can find them.  Yes, it would have made sense to make note which came from where...
