67 Big Block GTA. Standard suspension, PS, Air. I am still trying to find out the correct diameter and finish on the front sway bar. Anyone?
-
13/16 or 7/8 for a GT/GTA without competition suspension. I'm away from my records and don't recall the exact diameter. For finish I would recommend gun blue.
-
Good luck with getting an accurate measurement - always found it a fun task ::)
67 MPC lists the correct one as C7ZZ-8482-C but unfortunately there are no numbers to look for on the sway bar. Same reference list it as .858 dia. Later versions listed it as 7/98 "
Semi-gloss black is what I've seen on sway bars

7/9"????? Gotta be a typo...

LOL
Public School system schooling ::)

Must be 7/8 because the 15/16 is for the competition suspension.

My 67 has the competition suspension -- the big sway bar.
It has sway bar color codes yellow and green.
The green is almost a dead match for Krylon Hunter Green Satin spray. I had a can on the spray can shelf(s).
But the yellow is so faint and I have so little of it I can't match it.
Where does everyone get the colors for this and the other suspension parts?

Have not found all marked this way but would suggest to stay with the green and yellow if you found it that way. The yellow that I've seen on many is a paler version of the yellow we often see and paler than the yellow examples listed in the Paint Mark Article in the Library. The marking combination was used for many years and multiple applications. The picture below is an example of the yellow. Hopefully it will come across fairly true on your monitor

Takes me about 3-5 hours to got through all my notes, files and pictures each time. There are booklets that have been published and a couple of sites on the web but would not recommend them. Too many errors and too much mix and match for me.
The other source some use is other peoples work but lots and lots IMHO of restored cars have these details incorrect or the cars were built years ago and we've learn more since that time period. If they get the colors right then the location, method of application and even typical sizing is often off. As we've mentioned many times. Better no marks than wrong or incorrect ones since the later only leads to others copying and applying them on their cars and leaving you somewhat responsible for it ::)
Just looked an I've got right around 7500 pictures of just paint marks in the collection and adding daily. Thank you to all that send and submit them :D

Thanks Jeff.
Here is a pic of my bar to add to your collection. I used an actual camera with macro to zoom in on the bar in late afternoon natural light.

I believe the green/ yellow bar was listed as 15/16 “
-
Is the 15/16" sway bar the only size that uses the sway bar clamps, with the side holders? Meaning not just a flat band with ribs?
-
Scott-I’m curious to know if you found an answer? I have the heavy duty suspension with, I believe, a 7/8” bar. My mounting brackets are repops and not sure what to use.

For what it is worth the 15/16 bar (which is the only bar I have seen the heavy duty sway bar brackets used on) was only used on the competition suspension in 67.
-
Jeff, do you have any pics of these two parts ? The two different mounting brackets. Would one of these be the same as used on a 68 428 GT car ?
-
This is a east item to carry at Carlisle to hunt down a sway bar.
-
The 1968 Shelby used the 15/16 bar with the heavy duty brackets. I believe these were also on 1969 Mach 1s

Nice.
I've always used an open end wrench (or maybe a crows foot if I had to take it with me in my pocket)

A friend wanted know if the sway bar for his 67 basket case Shelby was correct.
We pulled out my sway bar to compare and I see I did not apply the paint codes.
I did have a measured drawing of where the paint went but I failed to indicate which end was driver's side.
I may had the bar inverted which would flip the colors.
Just need to verify that as viewed from the front on an assembled car that the green is on the passenger side, like Jeff's May 16, 2018 post.

Look at Jeff's reply #8 it has the paint marks in the correct orientation. Other aspects in the picture are not correct.

Thanks for the verification, Bob.
I have so many pictures of my car as I tore it apart but all I have is the closeup, I showed above.
For some reason I have few pictures of the bar straight on.
Onward!
