Title: 289 (65-67) Block Date Stamp Study/Survey
Post by: J_Speegle on February 08, 2020, 07:57:26 PM
Figured we would start small and focused study then we can move to later years and other engines once we get this step addressed and if it bears any fruit

The question - Is the assembly date and assemblers initial stamped on the small protrusion at the front drivers side of the block where the head attaches the assembly date of the short block or the completed engine?

For years we have taken it to mean the completed engine but let's see what the findings suggest and discuss

To collect information we need at least

1- Engine block casting date

2- Assembly date stamped on the small extension/protrusion

3- Casting dates of the heads, intake, dist, exhaust manifolds believed to be original to the block

4- Engine ID aluminum tag information

The findings may not be as defining as other surveys since individual items could be cast before and installed after if that was what was done.

Lets see where this leads us

Thanks for viewing and considering participation

Jeff, here is the info from my car.  I've added a few more items to what you originally requested, and also noted what I know is not original.  I can dig out the harmonic balancer later if needed.
