Title: 1979 Pace Car Questions
Post by: cobramustang1993 on January 25, 2012, 06:59:17 PM
Just got in a 1979 Mustang Pace Car, and have a couple of questions....

1. Does anyone have a picture or description of what the original factory-supplied battery would have looked like????
2. This car does not have the usual underhood pad...It looks like it was never installed at factory.....Anyone have any ideas on that or have the similiar situation with their cars???/

Thanks
Sandy

Hi there.  Is your car a V8 or a Turbo-4?  I have some pictures of low mileage engine bays of each one.

The under hood pad is basically non-existent.  They were used in 79-82 Mustangs, and Capri's.  I found one, after looking for years.  My friend found one, and the guy did not realize he had two, but it cost big bucks.

I'm sorry but I don't have a picture of a NOS battery.

I have two Pace cars, one I bought new that has only 75 miles,
I have the original battery, it is the optional size.
Both of my cars have hood insulation.
Leave me a PM, I can send you pictures.

I love the username C5ZZ!  = 65 Mustang.  I would love to see some pictures of your D9ZZ Pace Cars.  Maybe you can post them here?

Thanks!

The C5ZZ comes from my days in the parts dept at a Ford dealer.
I'm not good at posting pics and the cars are buried in the garage
but if you need pics of something specific leave me a PM, I can e-mail
them to you and you can post them.

I also had a 79 Cobra that was my daily driver back in the 80's was
originally a turbo but ended up putting in a 83 5.0 5spd, what a fun car!

Hood Pad, I have seen a low mile Pace Car ( at the Utah national ) without a hood pad, The paint was very poor under the hood, it was an idea the hood did not pass paint, but was since out to be the dealers problem.
Pace Cars had paint drips in the front nose piece ( not all of course)  where they meet the fenders also.

Wow, thats awesome to have a 79 pace car with only 75 miles. What do you ever plan on doing with it?  What do you think the value is?  Also, I see you have an extremely low MCA #. What year did you join MCA?  My number is 17780 and we joined MCA in 1986 (26 yr member).
