Title: 1966 289 Hipo Crankshaft and Bearings
Post by: ceswert on November 02, 2012, 03:21:32 PM
I am searching for a 1966 289 Hipo crank and bearings for my short block. If I can find an original, what do you consider a fair price? Also if work needs to be done on it to bring it back into spec what would that set me back?

Cores would be at least $250-300 that need to rebuilt.  Rebuilt, ready to install, could go from $500-800.

Thanks!

I should mention that these figures only apply to the original C5 hi-po balancers.  The later C8 replacements aren't usually worth more than $250 in NOS condition.  Only practical as a mechanical replacement but not concours correct for 65-67 K codes.

I'm looking for an OE HiPo crank myself so this caught my eye. The original question was about cranks and bearings but I'm a little confused here (not unusual at all), are we discussing prices for HiPo cranks or balancers?

Looks like I misread.

The original style main caps usually go for $500-1k or more.

Haven't seen many cranks for sale to give any feedback.  Guessing at least $500 for an original one in good condition... should have right markings and hardness test marks.
