1969 Auto Shift Knob Black vs Chrome
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:33:06 AM »
What were the conditions for getting a black a/t shift knob vs. an all chrome a/t shift knob?

I have a 1969 Coupe that I am converting to the Interior Décor Group option (black instrument panel), with hi-back seats, w/o console...(note this is NOT the Interior Décor Group, Deluxe option w/wood grain dash).

I am trying to figure out if this configuration would use a chrome or black shift knob. I have the parts manual but it doesn't give the fit information for this component.

Thanks!
Bo

I believe this was limited to the Mach 1 and Grande cars typically but I am sure a few black knobs were put in the standard models and vice versa.   Chris

+1 with what Chris reported.

Mach I, Grande, deluxe interior = black
Others = chrome

Thanks Chris and Jeff for your response.

Jeff, I think you mean the other way around...Black was used in Mach 1, Grande and Deluxe...and chrome was standard.

My dilemma is in the word "deluxe"...as in Deluxe Interior Décor Group vs Interior Décor Group that is NOT deluxe. aka with or without woodgrain dash panel.

I cant find documentation anywhere...and I have a lot of resource material. I was hoping someone may have access or experience with the non Deluxe, Interior Décor Group option plus automatic transmission. I am going to go with your "deluxe" comment and assume mine would be the chrome one for now (since that's what I have ;) )

Thanks,
Bo

Bo,

From what I have seen the black knob would come on a 69 Mustang with either the Deluxe Interior Decor Group of the Interior Decor group. I used to have a 69 Mustang with an automatic and the Interior Decor Group (black gauge panels with woodgrain doors) and it came with the black knob not chrome.
