1970 Sport Lamp Bulb Color
« on: November 29, 2018, 06:47:09 PM »
This may seem like a silly question but I am having trouble finding out what the correct color of the bulb is for the 1970 Mach 1 sport lamps, amber or clear. Thanks

Looked through the examples in the 70 Unrestored Picture section of the site and only one showed the bulbs clearly

And a couple more from cars' I've not posted pictures of yet

Haven't looked but are they not listed in the owners manual? Would check if I had a copy here

Thanks again Jeff, I was pretty sure they where the amber color but saw some examples with clear so I thought I would ask before buying and installing.

I thought you may have been asking (at first) whether or not the amber bulb was painted amber or the commonly-found amber glass. Older amber-colored bulbs were painted (dipped) while today's replacements are all amber-colored glass.

Personally-speaking, if I had a 70 Mustang with Sports Lamps, I would want the CORRECT type of Amber bulb yet so far, this has not been spelled out in this thread.

I'm not sure for the 70's but 69's had painted bulbs. Here is a thread from a couple of years ago if you find they are painted bulbs. :)

I asked the bulb color question and now realize I didn't need to, but appreciate all the feed back. I remembered that sometime many years ago 18 or so, I purchased a LH side NOS complete Mach 1 sport lamp. I hadn't see or touch it unit today and after pulling the chrome bezel off I see that the original painted amber bulb is still in it. I have not tried to remove the lens as it is literally stuck to the pretty much hard original gasket and I don't want to damage anything and it will go back on the shelf for maybe another number of years ;-)
