'69 Brake Booster
« on: November 24, 2019, 04:56:29 PM »
I just pulled the brake booster off my March 4, 1969 Metuchen built Mach 1 , and find "Bendix" and "6943" on the unit (see pic). I understand that service replacements only had Fomoco script on them, so I assume this is a factory original … either original to my car or a rebuilt unit.

Am I correct in deciphering this date code as April 3, 1969, making this a likely rebuilt unit?

Thanks in advance

Don't know that I've ever seen a NOS Bendix from Ford. It seems that for the most part the contract was given to the other company and those had the FoMoCo script on them.

As for the date I think its possible that the "3" may be a shift or week. Not enough examples and concrete evidence at this point to draw a conclusion IMHO

I think you are confusing what was on the Midland service units compared to with what a Bendix booster looked like. No FOMOCO on the Bendix. That core is going to need a lot work to hide the pitting . It is probably best to restore another core IMO. If that is your intention. They are still not that hard to find.

Don't think that is a date code. Every 1970 booster I've seen had 6945 on it. Probably all 1969 boosters have 6943 on them. They are identical except for the rod that connects to the brake pedal.
