No. It's the location of the engine assembly date as discussed many times on this forum. That is shown by the yellow arrow. The red arrow is a bonus for 289 HP engine cars, the head casting location, which should be 19, 20 or 21 (mine are 21) that should be part of 65 thru 67 Shelby GT-350s engine identification.

Was referring to (as quoted) your comment about an assembly date being on the oil pan surface

Quote again

See picture for the "visible" assembly date location for 64-68 289 blocks. There is another assembly date on the oil pan mounting surface, but I don't recommend pulling the oil pan on a running engine.

The crank journals and bearing caps were machined by "machine", then the crank installed, torqued and some type of measurement made as to fit to the bearing. It was my understanding that the measurements were also done by machine (another thread), but the actual installation and torque were human and the stamp was the "proof" (it's still a tossup as to assembler or inspector).
The bottom line is the "exposed" date (as shown on my picture) is a more accurate indication of whether an engine is "too early" or "too late" for a particular car that the casting date. It's the "where" that "exposed" date is stamped on all Ford blocks that should be the key point - a simple and easy reference to the engine's date.

Not sure if the engine is out but going to ask. Do you have the casting date of the block or any other from the parts attached? Just filling out columns in my spread sheet

Thanks in either case

Late to the party but here is a pic of my assembly date stamp for a Dec 18, 64 Dearborn scheduled build.
I'm not sure if it's Dec 1 or if there is another digit after the 1.
Machine date under the oil pan is 4M1B.
Block cast is 4L20.

There is a lot of similarity between a "B" and an "8", especially after 50 plus years.

Jim, my post wasn't very clear. I should have said my door tag scheduled build date is Dec 18, 64. My engine assembly date is what I posted. I can't tell if there is an extra digit, or not, after the 1.
My block machining date definitely ends with a B as per the attached pic.
Sorry for the confusion.....I'll edit the original.

I finally identified the last digit, or in this case letter, as an A. I was always assuming it would be number and was stumped as to what it was. Thanks to you Jim, on another post you said the date is followed by a letter. I scurried back out to the garage with some steel wool and mineral spirits, again, and see it's an A. I'm happy.

As mentioned in some of the other threads about the stamping the last stamp is the initial of the worker who assembled it.

That is what it appears to be

Feb 18th 1969 Stamped by a worker with an initial of G (first or last name)
