White smog pump fan
« on: July 25, 2022, 02:14:26 PM »
I've seen a few of these for sale on the 'net and there's a difference in the ones I've seen, even though they all say "correct" reproduction. Any recommendation on who to buy from? Its for a '69 SCJ.

Sorry haven't purchased any in years. When they first were reproduced only the Chevy guys were selling them directly to the public though the supplier told me that he had sold plenty to some of the Mustang and Shelby guys. One can only guess what some were doing with them at the time other than using them just on restorations  ::)

Don't know how many people are making them. Can't be many

Personally I think the ivory, not bright white fans look better

Can a white fan in good condition be removed and saved for re installation? I'd like to replace the bearing.  Thanks, Dave

Haven't been successful doing this with originals or ones that have gone through many heat cycles

Of course there is always someone that has had more luck. Just my experience

I pull the hub and fan together with a puller I fabricated, then remove the fan from the hub.  That's the easy part.  Replacing the front bearing is difficult and tricky.

Just remove the pulley then put the pump with fan in the oven at about 175 degF, wait a few minutes, remove and the fan will come right off.
