axle tag info

How long before the build date of the car should the date code on the axle tag be dated? 3-4 weeks? Also, does anyone have any data correlating "plant codes" to gear ratios, traction-lok or not, ring gear size, vehicle model, etc.?

Looking at the records I have I'm finding 1-2 MONTHS between the date on the tag and the build date
