'67 Dearborn S code PCV hose
« on: March 29, 2014, 07:24:45 PM »
Should the black rubber "alligator skin" texture hose with ring clamps on both ends from the PCV valve to the vacuum system be painted corporate blue, or left natural black rubber?  Thanks.
I don't always downshift, but when I do it is near a Prius so they can hear me hurting the environment.

IMHO it should have some blue paint on it but could fade away anywhere in the length of hose - from the PCV to metal tube

Thanks Jeff, that sounds consistent with the '68s I've seen which had witness lines under the clamps.

Did this hose always have clamps on both ends?  I have a hose that looks to be covered with vintage blue paint but I can't see any marks where a clamp would have ever been.

Jeff, do you have any pictures of the PCV end of the hose and grommet into the valve cover?

Thanks.

Difficult question- Seen a fair share as you describe with no witness depression in the rubber at the valve cover end. But allot of them with the wire clamps. Pictures are inconclusive as in most you can not always make out the depression or not in the pictures. Allot of the unrestored examples I have that show that area have been played with so very little to no help there :(

Thanks Jeff,
I saw some pictures of the hose w/o clamps and looked at my 67 and it has no clamps and no witness lines or depressions which is why I asked. My car is an unrestored original w/ 39,000 miles but of course no way to know if anything was ever played with in all these years. Based on my experience I'd say the hose is original and no clamps but some day I'll have to have some 'expert' eyes look at it.  ;)
