1990 Convertible-- Should Luggage Rack Rivets Be Painted?
« on: August 19, 2014, 12:13:28 PM »
For a while now, I've been meaning to repaint the black exterior trim on my '90 7-up convertible.  One thing I wasn't sure of: should the rivet heads for the luggage rack be painted black along with the trim?  Or should the rivets be natural?  Personally, I think it looks better if they're blacked out, but I want to redo it like it came originally.
Too much junk, too little time.

I remember the rivets on my 89 GT being black from the factory. I have a partial box of them somewhere.

Thanks for the reply.  Since there's no way I'm going to drill out all of the factory rivets, I'm going to try and tape everything off.  I'll paint the rivet heads black along with the other trim.

Here is what the OEM rivets look like. Not sure if they are still available.
Sem makes an excellent product in aerosol form called "Trim Black". You should be able to find it wherever body shop supplies are sold.

You beat me to it!  I was thinking about this this morning when I was driving to work.  My next question was going to be about getting a picture of the factory rivets to be sure mine haven't been replaced.  And I agree on SEM Trim Black, that definitely seems the way to go here.
