Title: Finally got to Hershey
Post by: sparky65 on October 16, 2012, 11:55:57 PM
Finally, it took just under 10 years but I was finally able to show my car at the Fall AACA show at Hershey.  I've been attending Hershey since I was born, either helping my dad show is Model A or my uncle sell parts.  So it was really awesome to finally be able to show my own car. It was a lot of fun.  Quite a few people commented on the uncommon pebble beige color.

I have to say a lot of credit goes to this forum for helping me get the details correct.  Still have some things to correct.  I am thinking that maybe I should start topics where i post pictures of individual sections for judging.  It is just hard to put together pictures that could be useful for judging.

Steve it looks beautiful, you should be proud of your accomplishment. I hope to see it on a MCA show field some time. Marty

Congratulations !  VERY nice to see a restored 6cyl/auto - because you rarely do.

My guess is you can tell the same "try finding this part" story others go through with Boss's and Hi-Po Fords !

Not sure if I will be able to show it at the MCA events.  I'll see what the scheduled is for next years shows but usually they require the car to be there on Sunday.

Yea the stupid clip that holds the fuel and vacuum line to the valve cover.  I had some one come over and comment on the fact that I actually had one.  He later brought someone else over to point it out.  The truth of the mater is the one I have I fabricated myself but its off by a bit because I didn't have the right tools.  So still searching for that elusive part.

Very nice - congrads - moving the topic over the the show area ;)
Thanks for keeping things in order.  :)

It's nice to see a "run of the mill" 6 cylinder restored to this level.  Even though we mostly see the K codes, Boss's, Cobra Jets, and other "rare" cars, we shouldn't forget the majority of 1st generation mustangs were 6 cylinders, 260's, and 289 challenger V8's.

Thanks Dave!  Nice to know there are other AACA members and judges on here.   I know the AACA doesn't hand out scores or judging sheets but if you can remember anything I should fix let me know.  I need something to work on this winter.  ;)

Steve:

Great looking '67!. I went to Hershey in 2001 and definately want to go back again. Anyone that loves old cars needs to go there.

I also own a concourse restored 6 cylinder (1966) that I have shown in both MCA and AACA since 1998. You sure don't see many of these 6 cylinders at this level of restoration.

I know what you mean about that fuel line clip......definately the most difficult piece of the restoration to obtain. I finally found one on an unrestored Mustang on ebay, and talked the seller into selling me this clip. Friends thought I was making up the hunt of this part, until several of them witnessed me turning down $250.00 for mine at a MCA national.

What award did you earn on your '67?

Again, great looking car!

Kevin

Steve, CONGRATS on a job well done!! VERY NICE INDEED!!

I wonder just how hard it would be to properly reproduce the clip? must be a market if someone offered someone $250.00 for an original.....

I'm not real familliar with 6 cylinders so I'll ask if these clips were possibly used on later Ford 6s like the 250 or even the truck 240/300 that could be sourced easier?

-Did a google search and it looks like the one from a '66 V8 application just may work-looks to me like part of it is welded to the valve cover on the I6......

My understanding is that Scott Drake is working on a reproduction of this piece.

Steve...will you be showing at the AACA National in Lakeland Florida in February 2013? I will be there with my '66.

Again, congratulations on a beautiful car!

According to Ford, the service replacement for 1966 is 380726-S, which is the same clip used on the V-8 fuel line bracket (9180, not serviced) and the fuel line to valve cover on an I-6, ref ILL Sec 90 pg 3. Others have stated the I-6 clip is different. It may be, but 380726-S works.
Jim
380726-S is the factory installed clip used on 1967 170 and 200CID engines - ref AM00157 pg3. The only drawing I've found of that clip is in "Ford Standard and Utility Parts Catalog, July 1966", pg 32. What is shown there is not the same as what I've removed from 1966 289CID engines.

Last I talked to them a few months ago it soundend like they were doubting they would be able to recoupe tooling costs and were not going to be doing it any time soon.  They did look into it though.

I think we had a thread on here about this topic.  The 289 clip will work but looks different.

I used the 289 clip and then modified it to look closer to the original.  It took some welding, cutting and bending but it was faster then starting from scratch.

I doubt it.  I have an open trailer so I dont really want to take it out in February with all the salt on the road.

There may be a different answer as to a service application. The I-6 clip, 380726-S was used from 1965 (maybe even 1964 and other earlier Fords, Falcons, etc, with I-6 170 and 200 CID engines) thru at least 1967 (there is no 1968 Engine Assembly Manual to check) and it is the service replacement for the 1966 only V-8 fuel line clip. That's the documentation part. The aftermarket, as noted, doesn't make the clip, only the 1966 V-8 fuel line bracket and its clip. I hope that makes sense.
