AC Belt to Top Radiator Hose Clearance
« on: July 03, 2023, 11:19:33 PM »
On our 67 C-code coupe signature car, the AC / Thermactor Emissions air pump belt passes below, and is uncomfortably close to the top radiator hose.  The pictured C7ZE-8620-A top hose is sourced from Marti.  The correct C7ZE-8620-C belt (also from Marti) is installed, which is spec'd for 67 Mustang 289 w AC and Emissions.

Anyone know if there is a taller and/or longer top radiator hose that can be used to open up the hose-belt clearance, which now is only about 1/4 on my car?"  For peace of mind, would like to increase that hose-to-belt clearance a little bit.

Below photo is from a CMF June 2010 post researched from the CMF archives (https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=1364.0, and shows what would likely be a proper top radiator hose installation.  Can't make out the part number on the hose though:

As you can see in that picture that hose has been moved rearward to increase the clearance slightly. The length of the reproduction hoses has been the focus of a number of discussions in the past on a few forums and with Kevin Marti's shop. Recall supplying them with details and pictures when that discussion was going on. Not sure if the reproduction length was increased or not

That's excellent history, background and a good clue.  Thanks Jeff.

I might need to forgo originality in this specific example and find an upper radiator hose that more closely matches the original Ford specs in length and bends.

Kevin fixed the problem back in 2020. Be sure to buy from him and explain your clearance issues. I had the same issue and bought the updated hose to remedy the issue.
