Title: Houndstooth Tops
Post by: Toejamm on May 15, 2017, 02:45:28 PM

I thought this might be of interest. It is a newspaper ad from 1970. There are two Mustangs with Blue Houndstooth vinyl tops and one with an Ivy Houndstooth vinyl top.

Dealers also often added vinyl tops to cars is different patterns and materials to produce and support promotions as well to body styles (fastback/sportroofs) that were not available from the factory., Believe there is at least on thread showing 67-73 vinyl topped fastbacks from the period

Yes, it is. I scanned if from a Ford book I picked up. I would have to dig it up, but it is for Ford dealer marketing.

In other years dealers installed trendy tops like paisley (flower power) and other patterned tops. Saw one last year (67 or 8 coupe) at a show with one. Had the receipts from the dealership showing it had been done prior to delivery. Believe I have a period article showing Acme (supplier of tops and headliners from the 60's through the 80's at least) doing an install
