Title: 1965 alternator wire harness with gauges vs. 1966
Post by: socalgt on May 31, 2017, 09:10:04 PM
Was the alternator wire harness for a '65  289 with gauges the same used in '66?  ( color, connections, etc.)

I don't believe so, due to the different way the ammeters are wired.  The simpler wiring diagrams indicate they are the same, but I don't believe it.  The more detailed schematics show that they are also electrically the same.  Nevertheless,  NPD has them different, as does the MPC.

I rarely refurbish alternator harnesses, as the reproductions are so cheap and well made.  Thus, I don't have a definitive answer for you.

The 65 alternator harness has an extra connection for the external mounted radio suppression capacitor
66 doesn't have this extra connector as the suppression unit was integrated internally on 66 alternator
Not sure what date the change occurred
