Title: fuel sending unit
Post by: c9zx on August 19, 2010, 01:20:31 PM
Does anyone know of a source for a correct fuel sending unit for 1972 mustang with dual exhaust? I've bought two from different vendors who both said it was correct. In both cases, when installed, the fuel outlet points rearward and up at about a 45 degree angle. This would require a long loop of hose that would end up occupying the space where the left tail pipe must be. It needs to point forward at about 45 degrees to connect to the fuel line, with a short hose, going to the engine compartment (as the ford assembly manual depicts).

All help appreciated,
Chuck

Just an update. Thanks to D. Whitacker, I located 3 original fuel pick ups/fuel level sending units. All three point forward as required and shown in the Ford assembly manual. The number stamped on all three is D1ZF 9275AB. Unfortunately, none of the three were in working condition. So now I'm attempting to adapt the wire wound resistor from one of the reproduction pieces to an original pick up float arm/resistor wiper. As information, the two non-correct units were purchased from Dallas Mustang and National Parts Depot.
