Title: 68 FE bell housing
Post by: ruppstang on March 23, 2019, 09:47:19 AM
I bought a 68 S code basket case project a few months ago. It is a Four speed manual transmission and the bell housing that came with it is a C5TA 7505 B.
It appears it should have a C6 OA 6394 D.

My question is will the C5 TA 7505 B work with out any modification?

Mustang Tek listed the C5 TA 7505 as a FE bell housing but not much else.

I think that is a truck bell housing and is deeper by a small amount than the correct C6 one.  It can be used with a special longer pilot bearing to support the front of the trans input shaft.

I guess it's extra length is small enough it would not effect the drive shaft? I will continue to look for the correct C6 one.

the C5TA-7505-B truck bell housing is about .5 inches deeper than the car bell housing.  The splines on the clutch hub will not be fully engaged on the input shaft .      The shifter would also be moved the same distance further back along with the transmission.

Thanks for the information. I do not do modified Mustangs, I 'll find the correct part.
