Post by: J_Speegle on February 07, 2011, 09:40:13 PM

I have seen some that were apparently bare steel on the smaller 67 style retainers and others that appeared to have been zinc phosphated. Bob

Yeah, it's been quite a while since this was posted.

Have we learned anything different? Bullett68s query regarding 68s and my current cleanup of my 67 SJ K/H calipers has me asking.

Other then I am leaning more toward phosphate and oil upon reflection. Given other retaining hardware of the same function are finished that way and if they were bare steel in that exposed location they would be more apt to rust away . There are enough examples to conclude that was not always the case so the PO is most likely IMO.

So when was the split from early design caliper (early design retainers) to the 2nd design caliper with 2 retainers each side?

My 11/02/66 built has the original calipers still and are the early design, like a 65 or 66 Mustang type.

My guess is late NOV/66 or early DEC/66.

And probably the same time hose fitting size and hardware changed too.
