Title: 67 GT 350 Gas Cap

I am restoring a 67 GT 350 and want to have my original gas cap re-chromed and don't know how to remove the spring loaded seal mechanism. It is steel and brass. Can you help?

The seal is pressed into place and behind it is a screw that hold it to the cap housing. You have to destroy the seal to remove it. The are not available so you need to find a donor cap to get a new seal out of. I gave up doing it this way as the rechroming of pot metal is so sporatic that now I just buy NOS caps.
