Post by: dgneyman on August 13, 2013, 03:25:06 PM
Does any one have any suggestions on how to dismantle the portion of the steering and suspension that goes across the bottom of the oil pan.  Car has power steering. any info will help.  Thanks.

Usually release it from the idler arm post.  Brian

I assume you are referring to the center link, tie rod ends, pitman are and idled arm. Remove the cotter pins (don't save them, get new ones); loosen all castle nuts on the above but leave them on loosely to keep items from falling; give a good solid rap on the side of each which should loosen the item (you may have to clean a spot on each part so the metal is exposed, and place a heavy object on the opposite side to concentrate the impact).
A "pickle fork" type tool is the last resort. DO NOT POUND THE EXPOSED STUD.
Get a copy of the appropriate Ford shop manual for your car. It has rebuild steps for the power steering control unit. It's not difficult.
