In reference to this extension and the oil pressure sending unit.

Are both of these pieces supposed to include using "teflon tape" on the threads?

No teflon tape was supposed to be used but if you want to use some be sure to take a small steel pick and remove the excess tape from the exposed threads down to a level on the threads where it is less or not noticable. Bob

What is the finish on this extension?

My guess is bare steel.

Don't be fooled by service replacements offered decades later that did have white teflon tap on the threads only to about half way up from the base.

Indianhead brand gasket shellac is similar looking to the product used to seal various fittings etc.back in the day at Ford .

Got it on the thread sealer.

But is the steel extension just bare steel? Looking for the finish.

Here is an unrestored example that is yet to develop a layer of rust from one of the cars in the Unrestored picture threads. Plating on the extension must have been applied thicker compared to the zinc (dichromate over zinc) on the fuel pump button

Yes some one has removed and replaced and reattached the sender since someone added teflon tape

I went through every "oil pressure extension" (and variants) post I could find and the finish never came up.

The extension is plated clear zinc.
The use of Teflon tape MAY not ground the sending unit properly. Use a liquid or paste type sealer.
