Currently I've seen people that believe it is a quick identifier for the workers on the line (or at the sub assembly locations around the plant) though I'm leaning towards it being the worker or subcontractor (they outsourced this work to tons of small shops) identifier. Think the color coded other label would have worked just fine for the line workers
