Engine and Axle tags 1967 - 1973
« on: November 25, 2018, 04:23:42 PM »
I listed a bunch of them on eBay today. No reserve, this is all I have. Just trying to clear out the garage a bit starting with these. The link is to just one of them, click on the "See Seller's Other Items" link to see all of them.

Very Nice Royce. I am still waiting for my tag book to arrive. Would any of those tags be correct for my car by chance

What is the rear axle code and scheduled build date on your door tag?

I'm looking at one you have listed, the 1969 3.00

My 69 is an O code, 3.00 Traction-Lock, build Date April 10, 1969. 28 spline Dearborn plant
Accurate looking but not a Concours Restoration/build. See my build photo gallery at 69GT350 Hertz Build

Did he list a 3L00 tag? I didn't see it.

Hi Royce my original tag would be for a 3:25 rear end built June 5, 1968. However the current diff I have in the car is out of a 1970 428 Cobra Jet. I am not sure of the gearing but I can get the ratio. So I am not sure which tag I should get, but perhaps the diff should have the right tag for it.

I think you should verify with other 390 cars if they have a N case also to confirm that is correct first . I am not that familiar with 390 cars so I am not sure if the N case is typical. If it is then great. If you want your car to be historically visually correct then put the tag on the car that it is supposed to have going by the Marti report regardless of what gear is inside. Just my suggestion.

Thanks Bob that is a good idea. According to the date on the carrier it is 1970 and it is a cobra jet carrier. Is there a dat on the actually housing anywhere? Perhaps it is just the carrier that was swapped. However since the carrier is a more desirable unit I am tempted to run it, unless I can find a suitable replacement and then sell mine. Do any of the tags you work for my application?

No date on the rear end housing . There would be no good reason to change the housing IMO. It would have been a extreme pain to change compared to just changing the center section.  The other carrier it might be is the single rib style which is more common and less desirable then the harder to find more durable N case. Verify which one it is but if it isn't supposed to have the n case then given all of the extreme detail you are trying to go for based on your posts it would be out of character for the build. It wouldn't make sense to compromise on such a relative visible item. You would be hard pressed to do anything that would even come close to breaking the weaker one rib 9" rear end on a pleasure driven car.  Hopefully it is the correct type so you don't have to mess with it. The resale of a N case would be about double that of the single rib IMO. Keep us posted.

Thanks Bob. I will restore everything either way and if I can find another carrier I will swap it out and sell mine with will be fresh. That may be the case with several items as I want to keep the restoration train rolling. So I should try to find a tag to match how the car left the factory. If I can find an original tag to match, how are the repro tags and are they acceptable.

Here is the centre section for reference

The reproduction tags that Marti does are nice enough to be acceptable in concours trailered class.
