weather stripping glue

I'm restoring a 67 mustang for concours driven and want to know what glue do I use to put on the door weather stripping? Should some of it show on the metal? Would this have been put on with a brush?
Thanks,

Glad I spotted this; I've always been unhappy with the visible glue from when I replaced my weatherstipping...guess I shouldn't worry about it.
