Title: Casting blemish in Intake valley
Post by: 13Outlaw on April 28, 2015, 10:35:50 PM
Have any of you ever seen a what appears to be a casting defect in the intake valley? I'll attach a picture an if you look an zoom in on the pass side of the engine toward the front. I was told nothing to worry about and since oil just passes in an out anyway it should be fine. The engine was running when it was pulled, but just curious what you all thought.

Just found some info on the hole that it may be in fact supposed to be there, for the distributor and timing chain.

Brian very interesting, it looks like you have a threaded plug in that front hole, where mine doesn't look like it has a plug. I bolted the intake back on the other day just to keep track of everything so I can't go check if mine has that plug but the picture is hard to tell. Another interesting thing is the hole I'm talking about is just on the other side of the valley from the plugged hole on yours and it looks like you have a casted hole where mine looks like a defect hole. I'll try to blow the pic up.

Don't pay any attention to the pipe plugs.  My valve train and oiling system has been modified to accommodate a solid lifter flat tappit valve train.  That does look like a casting defect and in an area that does not carry oil or water.  So I wouldn't worry about it.  Brian
