Title: Radio clean up
Post by: 67gta289 on February 20, 2016, 09:53:39 AM
I'm refreshing my radio and have two questions:

1. Does anyone know of any reference documents or websites with tips and tricks?  I'm not looking for someone to send the radio to, this is a DIY item for me.

2. I pulled the face off and below the knobs are several pieces of felt.  Two are still joined and it looks like they may all have been at one time.  Does anyone know the function, have pictures of one in good repair, and/or know of a source?

Thanks, John

I believe it is was a cushion/dust shield for the preset buttons. It would have been one piece originally. You can see glimpses of one in this video, between 23:30 and 25:00:

I don't know why there aren't more photos of these online  ::)

Cheapest sources would be to either make your own, or get one from a junk donor radio.

Agree - just a dust shield for the shafts. Guess you'll have to make a dozen or so - At least you now know the material (though old and likely collapsed some) and have a general pattern you can build from.

I believe the chrome knobs pull off (not easily though) and as Jeff said, you can likely build a similar product to function as intended using your old pieces as a pattern. Otherwise, likely fits 90% of the ford lines for a number of years. Maybe check some T-bird sites or suppliers.
