Title: 70 mustang rear end cap hardware.
Post by: cbrown on December 04, 2010, 09:12:13 PM
Just curious. I am doing a 70 boss 302 and thinking about details. I think i read somewhere that the end caps hung loosely on the 1/4s while the car was painted. if that is the case should the studs and nuts have overspray on them? I am talking about the inside of trunk when it is all assembled.

The nuts are Zinc Dichromate with no overspray paint on them. The studs usually have some overspray. The end caps were removed after painting to install the seal on the end cap. This procedure applied to both Dearborn and Metuchen assy plants.

It is a dearborn if it matters. So   I am assuming they did something like just set the end caps on for painting and  no nut?    ONe would think maybe one nut loosley installed to prevent falling off. Thanks for the help.  One more little detail corrected.

Thanks - it only matters in that I wanted to provide a plant specific picture (and year) if I had one available to help ;)
You can just make out the orange paint on the tip of the stud
