I have been working pretty intimately with my car the last few weeks and noticed yellow paint on tge outside of the badly aged spring perch rubber.
was this normal? Is it from the painting of the spring as it has yellow paint.

Never seen that before - might be some other reason - if you notice in the picture the end of the coil spring and the perch ear appear to have been painted blue -
Considering that the upper arms have been played with anything is possible by previous owners and shops IMHO
The coil springs were far away from where the spring perches were when they were marked I believe - not sure how many miles but a fair number I would guess ;)
-
Springs and perches were made by different vendors
-
ok, so its definately not over spray or drip marks.
I guess the big question is, would you try to reproduce this mark if this was your car?

Tim the assembly line spring perch rubber bushing had a thin yellow coating on the end of rubber on the crimped end only. Jeff I think that is undercoat & not blue paint just a glare reflection as you can see the undercoat pattern just above the coil spring end on top a-arm.

What years Ed?
Might be glare but that end doesn't have much that would reflect light. ;)

Doesn't for me - Hmm maybe your browser privacy settings ?

I have a good collection of original spring perches from several years and the yellow on the rubber bushing is on the majority of them I have seen. Not that uncommon. So that is not related to the coil spring paint. And yes, I would for sure reproduce these if they are on your car and original to the car.

Some pictures of a few random I was able to find showing the yellow....

Thanks for the picture - so yellow at both of the ends of the rubber.

Yes...I have found yellow on both the crimped end of the bushing and the other end. I would have thought it would be one or the other, but have documented yellow being used on both sides.
