Title: '66 GT fastback undercarriage
Post by: CharlesTurner on February 08, 2010, 06:53:36 PM
Thought I would share some pics of a '66 GT fastback that I am currently restoring.  We used the PVC pipe sections like Jeff recommended to duplicate the original skids.  This car is owned by a fella that posts here.  I'll let him decide if he wants to claim it!   :) ;D

My painter does things a little different than might be expected.  He likes to do the undercarriage, with proper over spray before doing the exterior.  I suppose it doesn't really matter, since the final outcome is the same.  The car should be painted very soon.  It's a Candy Apple Red '66 GT fastback.

Have you found a way to get that factory looking drips/fish eyes in the floor paint? I've noticed that on several original paint floorboards.

Wow - my sections of pipes we're that long!!!  Painter sure has to be careful not to run into one of those ;)

What plant is this one?

If your lucky the floors are nice and original and in that case you can just clean the floor pans, scuff them up (repairing any scratches and such) ans simply shot over the top of the original paint

If not some are using rattle cans to build up the paint along the ribs before the floor color is added.  Heard of some using a pencil to allow the paint to track to a low hanging object during this process.

Just a couple of possibilities - sure there are plenty more

By far the easiest way to get the drips is to get the gun close and lay it on. let the paint do the rest. works every time.
