Title: very early 67 S code for sale

Very early SJ car VIN 7R02S100034 for sale on eBay.  Not involve, just noticed and thought it would be interesting for some.

Lower back panel grille and two tone paint option.  Actually a very loaded car.

I agree that is  probably was a demo car, but it has so many things that are incorrect in its current state (and not just talking about user modifications like the exhaust or wheels!).

Kevin indicates on the Marti report that this car has shoulder harness.

Was that a pre-production option that did not make it into production?


As a side note, there are several 1968 Cougars that received rear shoulder belts. Does anyone know of any documented Mustangs with rear shoulder belts in 1968?

I believe that shoulder harnesses (front) was an RPO for 67.  Not very common though.  I've seen a few and have a couple Marti reports and build sheets to support it.  Have never seen rear shoulder harnesses in any Mustang through 78 personally.

Has anyone seen someone riding in a back seat of any Mustang through 1978???   *G*

The front shoulder harness was a RPO for 67 and became standard equipment 12-12 -67
The rear seat harness was discontinued 12 -12-67 I have not seen one in a Mustang either.

For the benefit of those of us who don't have a highly trained eye, could you elaborate on some of the incorrect items?  I'm a 1969 owner but have always had a soft spot in my heart for the 1967-68's and would like to learn. Thanks!

Here are a few. wrong horn for a AC, wrong radiator cap. wrong  shocks, latter hood, 2 hood grounds, AC fill valve caps wrong, air cleaner nut wrong, grill reproduction and wrong color, wrong coil, hood latch finish and most decals wrong. Others can add to this

I would challenge the two hood grounds. Somewhere, I have a picture of two, on an original very early production 1967 Cougar (Dearborn).

Since we are picking at details that are incorrect by concours level,
What would the correct radiator cap look like?
What makes the hood a "latter hood"?
The other things are rather easy to spot.

The early hoods did not have the punched holes favoring the driver's side that are used to route wires through for the hood mounted turn signals.

One thing I was surprised to see is the remote mirror cutout on the passenger door panel.  Was it even an option to have a passenger side remote mirror in '67-68?  It may be correct; I've just never seen one.

Always learning  :o You cannot "unlearn" the truth :) So this (knowledge about the hood) begs the questions...When did the change in hoods occur, and is it different (the date) depending the assembly plant?  ???
Updated to my question, I looked around the forum and found this thread:

I learned even some more there!!! I am interested in getting a closer look at that "green" hood (of three in one picture) It was a SJ built really close to mine. It has a hood lamp on it too?

 I found this information in the original Mustang Recognition Guide by Farr, Heasley and Kopec. It states that three optional exterior mirrors were available from FORD "Dealers" in 1967. I'm assuming that it wasn't a Factory option.

And for 1968 the book states on page 117 "Other exterior options" include LH remote mirror, it doesn't say anything about a RH mirror as a Factory option.

Let's see what others here can find.

Maybe it was just a dealer-added option.  I wouldn't want the responsibility of cutting a clean hole in the aluminum trim on the door panel!

Thanks, I wouldn't have caught the horn. I only noticed the coil and hood latch after you mentioned them. Most of us can spot the incorrect radio, decals, wing nut, etc, but it's great to see the more subtle things highlighted - they stick in your memory after they've been called out. Good stuff.

Phil here are a few more.
Wipers arms set too high, backup light housing black not grey?, hood hinge finish black not phosphate, no red sealant on starter solenoid rivet, black paint on cowl above pinch weld, speakers in kick panels, no Ford labels in sill plates, zip ties holding the brake and fuel lines together, missing seat bolt access plugs, grease zert in lower ball joint and a aftermarket PS pressure hose with the incorrect cover.
