Rear screen install.
« on: May 05, 2010, 02:29:31 PM »
Hi Fellas
I have taken out my rear screen as it leaked - 1965 Fastback.
The molding clips were mostly rotted away but I found some whole ones, these had a single hole in them - not like the replacements which have a slot up the centre.
They were fixed to the car with small stainless steel self tapping screws.
A fellow over here has just removed his screens on a 1966 coupe and he had slotted clips and they fixed over a pin that had a plain head which stood proud of the window aperture.
So should my car have the plain pins ?
If so how are these attatched to the car?
If my car is not correct I guess I will have to fix the new clips back with the screws and hope it works OK
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

'65 used the screw-in clips and then later, probably early '66 production, the studs were used with push-on clips.

Thank you Charles
Will the new slotted clips work ok with the screws, or are the original type still available.
The reason for asking is  I screwed a new one on and it seems mighty tight to get the molding in between the clip and the body.
I am wondering if I have to leave the screws undone slightly to replicate the plain pin when I use these clips.
I dont want to fit the screen and seal it all up to find I cannot get the molding on because the clips are too tight.
Any thoughts ?

The clips are different for each application and both should be available.  I'd recommend you use the right clips for the screw-on application.
