So, I mis-quoted the Service Part engineering number.

Turns out it is "E5" (not "E3").

I pulled some images off the Net. The red arrow points attention tab area, if compared to the C7 or the C8, you might spot the differences

Richard : In regard to the "?" on the "S: in the picture Posted in your Reply #27 only signifies that this part was originally designed for use on the Thunderbirds. This Part was also used in 1967 on all Full Size Fords, Fairlanes, Mustangs and Falcons in 1967.
Your "?" should have been after the "B" as you forgot a "7" there. The Service Part Number was C7SZ-17B732-A.

Unfortunately, omissions are all too cmon with all of us.

And all Mercury products.

The 1967 control and nut are quite different from 1968. I think the round balls / rounded nuts found on 1967 model year car are replacements. I didn't see those back when I was scouring junk yards in the 1970's other than round ball = 1968 and baseball bat shape = 1967.

My SJ Shelby has its original mirror as noted by the date stamp of 2-DMI-7 on the bottom of the glass which I believe makes it a Feb 67 mirror.

C7AB17743 R and FoMoCo in rectangle cast into base.

And the baseball bat style knob.

The Service Part Number was C7SBZS-17B732-A.
That's one strange looking Ford part number.

Jim : Thanks. Correction made.

I guess I should have said "omissions and additions" (ha !)

Bob,
At least you entered a Ford part number. Others seem to be afraid to do that.

My very late 67 has the tapered style. It does have a few 68 parts, just not the ball remote knob.
