exhaust gasket

Getting ready to assemble the 428CJ and am looking for recommendations as to the best exhaust manifold gasket to use.

Exhaust manifold gaskets where not used from the factory so it is hard to recommend one. ;)

It is prudent to have the exhaust manifold surface to the head resurfaced for trueness . You probably will not have a leakage issue but it is extra insurance. I also smear a thin bit of high temp silicone on the mating surface. Not enough to squeeze out but if some does I use a dental pick type tool to get rid of any visible indications.

Originally Ford used graphite on these surfaces and as the engine went through it's heat cycle the graphite hardened and filled the small voids and imperfections. DID the same on the last two engines I've rebuilt (after having the heads and exhaust manifolds machined) and have not no issues or blow outs so far.

It was one of the liquid graphite products. Brushed it on the surfaces. Will have to see if I can find the rattle can it came in

McKays Spray Graphite comes to mind. Would that work?
