Pinion Bearing Retainer

Charles, hope you don’t mind but I’m using one of your photos to ask a question.
Does the front of the Pinion Bearing Retainer have a plate of some sort or is it just not painted in this area? If it is a retainer would it have been on a 64.5? Thanks

no retainer, just a machined area. yes to the 64 1/2 part. remember this is a 9" setup.
