Spring in lower radiator hose

Did Ford put a spring in the lower radiator hose
on 6 cyl or V8 engines to keep the hose from
collapsing then overheat?
I have a 65 6 cyl that I have been restoring and bought
it as a basket case so don't have anything to go by.
