Topic: Painting panels individually or whole car assembled?

Ok, so how about the single stage vs. two stage finish with reguard to the overspray patterns?  Seems like two stage systems are better (easier) for metallic paints.  If you choose to go this way, would you "fake" the overspray patterns with a single stage paint?

Depends on the overspray  - if its (for example) Dearborn front wheelwells at the rear where there is normally direct paint application - not really overspray you can clear it. Same would go in the rear wheelwell over the sound deadener. Now where the real overspray is, where these two areas transision  or the floor the paint can be a challenge since you'll need to fade the clear coat which in turn will produce a rough surface. Not sure how the professionals that use water base or two stage are doing it - if they are.  I haven't been recommending those shops and painters for a while

On a car that the exterior is done with 2 stage paint, a good solution for the over-spray patterns would be to use a single-stage acrylic enamel or urethane.
