69 FMX dipstick tube color
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:14:41 AM »
What would be the best color for the FMX dipstick tube in 1969? Hard to tell how much oil has changed the tint of the color. It could be robins egg blue or a turquoise color, I have two tubes and they are slightly different. Is there a color call out from Ford or guess your best.

What was the color of the handle on the dipstick?
Silver or more like silver-blue metallic?

Thank you

More bare steel than anything else from what I see and recall.

Note that the flat surfaces facing the camera are simply showing the flash - not the true color/finish. The shroud and the handle (shaft) are darker and more like just metal and a "silver" to me. Comparing to the last example in the pictures above it might have had a thin coat of plating but I don't recognize the type

Thank you for the reply.

now I have another question about the markings on the dipstick. I have two dipsticks for the FMX here. Both have the casting number C9OP-7A020-A3.
But there is a difference on the full mark.  The one in my car has a "FULL" on the full mark, the other has the "DONT"....fill... on the full mark. im confused.
Both have the short handle and exactly the same lenght and marks on the same position. Everything is the same except the word on the full mark.

greets

Christopher

I used a Dupli-Color engine enamel spray paint called "Pontiac Blue Metallic" to replicate the robin eggs blue for a 70 FMX...

I thought it would be relevant to mention that I don't think that the posted color is a appropriate color to suggest others to use because of the metallic content in your substitute color . No metallic in the factory robins egg blue . You can get a good idea from reply #2. If no one posts I will dig through my notes . I do the FMX dipstick so infrequently I don't have the substitute I use committed to memory.

I'll look through the rattle cans - should have the maker and number of what we used on Dan's car. Was a really nice match IMHO

I had my paint store match the color and load it in a spray can. The label says "1955 Ford 5A-7521-00 Aqua Tone Blue CC:A. They're a Sherwin Williams dealer but I don't know if it is a Sherwin Williams paint code or another brand but it matches perfectly.
