I've read this many times over the years when people refer to black painted cars.
Did black cars receive more attention than different coloured cars on the paint line?

No unless they were show cars - all the cars were equally important  IMHO

Triple black often refers to black interior, black paint job, black top (convertibles or vinyl top coupes).    Or for hot rod guys sometimes a very deep black - not an option for us concours guys - its just black
